A Long Time Ago...

Our story actually begins on a day not easy to forget as it was August 8th, 2008. The place: Canyon Rim park just North of 33rd South in Salt Lake City, Utah. The people involved: Members of Iota (a chapter of Sigma Gamma Chi) and Members of Omega(a chapter of Lambda Delta Sigma).

We were attending an exchange, that's what it's called when a frat and sorority socialize together, at which the activity was supposed to be glow-in-the-dark volleyball. It was windy, too windy for volleyball, so we decided to play soccer instead. We played soccer for sometime and then eventually ended up playing missionary tag (couples tag) and mafia. Both Nicole and Michael remember this exchange, remember being at this exchange and remember meeting everyone at the exchange. But when Nicole and Michael met a little over a year later they didn't remember meeting each other before.

Fast forwarding now to August 15th, 2009. The scene is a social gathering of many people where there is food, a pool, and Rock Band. Nicole is out in/by the pool and Michael is in playing Rock Band with several of his Iota brothers. When enough people had gathered and some started expressing an interest in playing Rock Band, Michael and his brothers started rotating people in and out of the Band. It was at that moment that Michael started to scan the room to see who all had migrated inside from the pool and how many of them he knew. As he scanned the room he saw Nicole and noticed her above all else, to the point that he notices no one else in the room. A little bewildered and perplexed he leaves the room, headed for some other friends who have asked him to come join their conversation. As he sits to visit with these other friends he wonders why she hasn't ever stood out like that before. Not being able to get her out of his mind Michael retrieves his phone and sends a text message to Boris, a mutual friend of Nicole and Michael, asking what Nicole's story is. Boris responds and inquires as to the intentions of Michael. Once Boris is satisfied knowing the interest level, he informs Nicole via text message that he knows someone who is interested in her and requests her permission to provide her number to the individual which she grants. Thus Michael receives Nicole's number through Boris.

Unfortunately, a week goes by and Michael has not used Nicole's number. Frustrated, Nicole asks Boris what's going on and in turn, Boris asks Michael. (In defense of Michael, rush week was rapidly approaching and things were kind of hectic all around). It, however, saddens me to inform you that almost another whole week goes by before Michael finally uses Nicole's number. On August 26th, 2009, standing in a circle across from Nicole he finally sends her a text message. The response he receives wasn't to his phone as he had not disclosed his identity yet. Upon receiving the text message Nicole turns to Boris and asks him if he recognizes the number since she is afraid it could be some creep (He Who Shall Not Be Named). Boris, who obviously has Michael's number, leans in to look at the phone and confesses he does not recognize the number. Why should he?, Michael is after all saved in his phone so he doesn't need to know the number. At this point Michael steps in and rattles of his own number, Nicole looks up at him with a glance that says, 'how did you know that?' and he quickly adds, "yeah, that'd be me."

Well now that numbers have finally been exchanged (remember she didn't have his before) the story can finally get interesting. Nicole and Michael talked the whole next day via text and Nicole invited him to come visit her at work on Friday (they serve ice cream every Friday) which set Michael as ease and painted a pretty clear picture of just how interested she is in him. But terror strikes before Friday comes. You see, Thursday night was the rush carnival which is easily the biggest (most officer stressing) event of fall rush. To make matters even better one of Iota's officers, who happens to be the historian, decided that he wasn't needed and that he'd rather go back to the "Iota House" and play Halo or Call of Duty with Nicole who he had previously invited under the pretenses that the rest of us were coming too. In perfect fashion for this predator, he convinces Nicole to leave with him. They arrive at the "Iota House" only for Nicole to discover that there isn't anyone else there (cause the rest of the inhabitants are Iota officers and are helping clean up carnival like they should be) which makes her a bit wary but she continues thinking, "they were just cleaning up they should only be a few minutes behind us". An unknown amount of time elapses during which the following happens, Nicole kills her host (in the game of course) and he leans in and kisses her...on the lips! I can only imagine the shock and perhaps horror that she felt in what must have been a very uncomfortable situation. To make matters even better, Boris and Michael come walking in the door not five munites later (Thank goodness).

Absolutely exhausted from that night and the prior day Michael crashes on the floor in front of the couch where Nicole is sitting. The group begins watching an episode of Smallville and lying there Michael can hear Nicole texting, then Boris' phone going off, Boris texting, Nicole's phone going off back and forth...he begins to wonder about her interest level and begins to lose confidence that she is indeed interested in him. Finally the group decides to call it a night and everyone departs for their respective abodes.

As Michael is getting on the freeway he receives a text. Relieved, thinking it's from Nicole, he retrieves his phone glancing down at it he discovers that it was not Nicole but rather Boris who had texted him in a text which says, "Guess what out historian did to Niki tonight..." Rage fills Michael, because of the constant lack of respect that has been demonstrated by that particular individual and he talks it out with Boris, coming to the conclusion that he would still arrive the following day at Nicole's place of employment and see how things went.

Fast forwarding now to the late afternoon of August 27th. After visiting Nicole at work, she and Michael discuss what they would do next and decide to head to the "Iota House" to watch some episodes of Supernatural. Upon arriving there, the Iota historian is sitting on the couch (I don't recall what he was doing), so Nicole sits on a kitchen table chair while Michael sits on the love seat. After a brief moment Michael moves to the couch and sits between the other two. Eventually our 3rd unnamed individual retreats upstairs and Nicole moves to the couch next to Michael where she cuddles up to him with his arm around her. That evening Michael walks her out to her car, feeling like he'd like to kiss her but also feeling that it's too soon, so the evening ends with a hug.

Welcome now to Saturday they 28th. Our couple again decide to meet at the "Iota House" for some more Supernatural but are interrupted by a text from one of the other Omega girls to Nicole asking if she would like to see a movie called Post Grad. Nicole inquires if she could bring a boy to this event and they agree. With that, Nicole and Michael also decide they should grab a bite to eat so they head off to Luna Berry for some dinner before heading to the movie. Upon returning to the "Iota House", before leaving for the movie, Nicole gets to the step above Michael (perfect height...lets remember she's 5'1" and he's 6'2"), they embrace and she plants a kiss square on his lips, which after he quickly recovers from shock, he returns. When the two separate, not that it was terribly long, they both admit to wanting to kiss the night before. The rest of the night goes off without incident and to date, Michael and Nicole are together, their relationship progressing towards a "Happily Ever After".
