Ceiling Fan #2

After Michael finished opening his birthday/Christmas present (see this post), he quickly plugged in the batteries to charge so they would be ready for our next project. Both the fan and the drill arrived together on the same day, so that weekend, the drill received its inaugural use as we hung the fan. It proved to be a little more difficult than our bedroom fan, partly because we were using a wood screw to screw through metal (possibly due to the angled ceiling). It doesn't work so well. :) We had to take a little break from hanging the fan to run to Home Depot and get some metal screws.

This is what happens when you use a wood screw and try to go through metal

The metal screws we bought didn't quite screw in tightly either, so we cheated (note the extra washers on the right side of the second picture. Click to enlarge, if needed)

After struggling all morning with the fan, we went up to Michael's Family cabin (up in Heber) with some friends. It was a relaxing end to a busy day.

Fatherly Advice Fulfilled

At some point during our engagement, Niki's Dad offered us some great advice which was this, speaking to Niki," You need to be sure and get a good set of pans" then turning to me, "and you need to get a good drill and bits."

Well I'm happy to say that while Niki has had her good set of pans for just over a year now, I have finally invested in a good drill, with the help of Dave and Arline and my Dad too.  I had previously found this drill set at Home Depot but Niki and I felt it was a little over priced.  Well, I've been paying attention to the Home Depot ads and finally saw that it had gone on sale.  Niki took the initiative and organized some donations as Birthday and Christmas presents, and a few days later it arrived. One Drill, one Circular Saw, one Reciprocating Saw, one Light and two Batteries with Charger.  Pictures and video below courtesy of Niki.

Ceiling Fan #1

When we did our Final Walkthrough for our house, we noticed that there were extra switches on the wall in the hallway and the master bedroom. We asked the contractor what they were for, and he said, "Oh, those are for the ceiling fans. We've already put a box in the ceiling for you."
Thursday, Michael came home from work and started taking the light down from our bedroom ceiling (we had found a fan we liked the previous weekend). Here are some pictures documenting the project (Sorry, there are quite a few).

Poor man's Wire Stripper, and Michael using it. :)

Finnalyn hung out with us while we were working on the fan. Either in the hallway or in the room with us.

All Finished!
