Waiting for Dad

Finn loves licking the dishes after we put them into the dishwasher. Any time we open it, she'll come running over, if she's not otherwise occupied, and take her stance on the door. Here she is waiting for Michael to load the next plate into the dishwasher.

Our weekend project

When we moved in, we bought 5 of the 6 window coverings we needed, but never bought the one for second bedroom window. So Michael went to Home Depot this weekend and bought the last set of blinds. It turned into an all weekend project instead of a 2 hour (or less) project.

Here's some pictures from the fun times:

Hanging the brackets (with screws that didn't want to go in)

Removing slats because it was too long

All Finished!

There were some gouges in the top of the window frame, so we're glad that the blinds covered them up. If we ever move though, we will definitely be leaving this blind with the house. Even if we wanted to take it, I don't think the screws would come out of the window frame. It took us FOREVER to get them in.
I also have a new respect for the handyman that I married. He put up the other 5 blinds in one afternoon, and it took both of us about 5 hours to put this one up. I don't know if we were trying to screw them in through metal or what exactly made it take so long, but it took us a long time and we both were getting very frustrated. Luckily we are done with blinds until we finish the basement, and that will be at least another 2 years or so since we're storing some stuff down there until my parents return from Russia. :)

Happy Mother's Day (a few days late)!

Happy Mother's Day!
My Mom is in Russia this year for Mother's day, and it's a little hard to not have her around. If I have a simple question, I can't just call her (since she'd probably be asleep. Darn 13 time zones). I have to send an email and then wait a day or two for a response.
We were able to talk to both Mom and Dad for about an hour Sunday morning. It was really nice. Technology is amazing (and Sr. couples have quite a bit of leniency), so we had the webcam over Skype, but had to talk on the phone since we didn't have a mic for our computer. She'll be there for 2 Mother's days, so we get to do the phone call thing again next year too!
Hope it was a good one, even though Russia didn't celebrate it the same time!

Our Anniversary

This year our anniversary was on a Sunday and the weather was MUCH more cooperative.

Not a cloud in the sky! Ok, maybe a little teeny one way out in the distance, but it was a VERY nice day!

We decided to go on an insanely long walk (2.5 hours and 6ish miles) with Finn and just enjoyed what a beautiful day it was. The only thing we didn't enjoy were the sunburns that we received since we didn't even think about sunscreen (I still look like Rudolph!)

Monday, Michael decided to take the whole day off instead of just the afternoon like we had originally planned (I had already arranged to take the day off). We slept in a little, spent the morning with Finn, and then Michael took me out to lunch, to a little bakery that he used to go to every day when he worked across the street. We took our lunch to the park and enjoyed the nice weather. Since we had originally planned to go to Boondocks that afternoon (we had tickets that were good from 4-10), we kept heading that direction.

We had a little bit of time to kill, so we stopped at Ikea and walked around there. Neither of us had been there before, and it was fun to go and see what they offered. We found a TV stand that we liked (since our TV is currently sitting on my dresser), but we still want to look around and see if there are any others we like, so we didn't get it. We also found some kitchen accessories and outdoor accessories that we would like to buy at some point.

After walking so much the day before and then walking around Ikea (which, for those of you that have never been there, is pretty much a GINORMOUS two-story warehouse), we decided we didn't really want to walk around Boondocks for another couple hours, so we opted to save our tickets for another day. Instead, we went to Beyond Glaze and ate some delicious donuts (I had a Cherry Limeade Donut and Michael had a Raspberry Torte donut), and then headed home to spend some more time with Finn.

We stayed home with Finn for about an hour, and then headed to dinner at one of our very most favorite restaurants (Thanks to Brad and Heather for the gift card!). We had a very delicious meal, and then ran a quick errand to Home Depot before going back home and ending the night by watching Castle and playing Lego Harry Potter on the Xbox.

We were a little late on cutting our cake because we didn't pull it out of the freezer until Sunday afternoon and had a very busy day on Monday (it didn't help that we were extremely full from an amazing dinner). We ended up cutting it Tuesday evening.

It was SUPER moist and tasted delicious! We had some fun this year (sorry, no pictures), and smashed it. Michael's beard caught most of the mess on his face, but I got the raspberry layer in addition to the fondant, so there was a little more clean-up involved for me. Luckily we have a dog that caught anything I missed (Don't worry. She didn't get any of the chocolate)! :)

We are so happy that we have each other to spend time with and we enjoy marriage so much!
